SACRAMENTO – As the State Assembly and Senate are poised to finalize the 2022-23 state budget, State Senator John Laird (D-Santa Cruz) and Assemblymember Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) announced they have secured $25 million to help finalize the purchase of Watsonville Community Hospital for the Pajaro Valley Healthcare District.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator John Laird announced that he has named Community Human Services (CHS) as Nonprofit of the Year for the 17th Senate District.
CHS is dedicated to providing high quality mental health, substance abuse and homeless services to Monterey County residents.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator John Laird (D – Santa Cruz), Chair of the Senate Working Group on Climate Change, presented Senate Bill 1020, The Clean Energy Jobs and Affordability Act of 2022 in the Senate Appropriations committee.
The bill is a product of months of collaboration by the Senate Working Group to meet the challenges of climate change, adaptation, and resiliency through an equitable lens.
