(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) introduced Senate Bill (SB) 1135 to require health plans and insurers to notify consumers and health care providers about patients’ rights to timely access to care and language assistance.  It also requires insurers to include the toll-free number for the consumer call centers of the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) or the California Department of Insurance (CDI) on consumers’ insurance cards.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) introduced Senate Bill 1002 today, which will require the California Department of Public Health to establish a toll-free telephone number to receive and respond to questions about California’s aid-in-dying law.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) announced the introduction of Senate Bill (SB) 968, which would require the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to submit to the California Public Utilities Commission an assessment of the adverse economic impacts that could affect San Luis Obispo County if the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant were to shut down temporarily or permanently.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) introduced legislation to establish minimum standards of care and safety at pet boarding facilities.  Senate Bill (SB) 945 will provide pet boarding operators with clear guidance about the health and safety standards needed at their facilities.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) announced that applications for the 2016-17 California Senate, Assembly, Executive and Judicial Fellowship programs are available.  

The programs provide college graduates with an opportunity to become full-time staff members in Sacramento for 11 months beginning in October 2016.  Fellowships are jointly operated by the three branches of state government and the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS).

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed the End of Life Option Act, coauthored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which provides mentally-capable, terminally-ill Californians with the option to request a doctor’s prescription for aid-in-dying medication. This Second Extraordinary Session bill was modeled after Senators Lois Wolk (D-Davis) and Monning’s Senate Bill (SB) 128 and continued the effort to enact the End of Life Option Act in California this year.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Governor Jerry Brown recently signed into law Assembly Bill (AB) 361 by Assemblymember Katcho Achadjian (R-San Luis Obispo) and coauthored by Senators Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara).  The bill received unanimous, bipartisan support in the Legislature and will take effect immediately.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Assembly Bill (AB) X2 15, the End of Life Option Act, coauthored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed off of the Senate Floor today, marking the first time this subject matter has passed out the California Legislature.  On Wednesday, ABX2 15 passed off of the Assembly Floor on a 43-34 vote.
