Senate Budget Chair John Laird Champions $90 million Urgent Lifeline for Reproductive Health Care Providers

SACRAMENTO – Today, State Senator John Laird (D–Santa Cruz), author of SB 106, issued a statement following the bill’s passage. SB 106 provides $90 million in one-time funding to support reproductive health services – including clinics such as Planned Parenthood – facing immediate losses in federal funding.

“SB 106 is an urgent response to the only federal cut under H.R. 1 that took immediate effect, directly threatening access to family planning care across California. This $90 million investment will provide a critical lifeline to reproductive health providers specifically targeted by Congress and help prevent the loss of essential medical services in communities statewide. Without swift state action, hundreds of millions of dollars in care are at risk, and clinics could be forced to reduce services or close altogether. California is stepping in now because patients cannot wait.”
