Senate Approves SB 1261 to Preserve Critical Services for Older Adults and People with Disabilities

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate today unanimously passed Senate Bill 1261 by Senator John Laird, legislation to protect continued access to critical services for older adults and people with disabilities on the Central Coast during a regional transition affecting aging services. The bill now heads to the Assembly for consideration.

SB 1261 will allow the Aging and Disability Resource Connections (ADRC) serving San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties to temporarily continue operating independently during the redesignation of regional Area Agencies on Aging.

“SB 1261 ensures aging and disability resource connections can continue operating during major transitions affecting aging services,” said Laird. “Without this bill, several counties would be forced to curtail critical services that older adults and people with disabilities rely on every day.”
