Laird Bill to Protect Aging and Disability Services Advances from Senate Appropriations Committee

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Appropriations Committee today advanced Senate Bill 1261 by Senator John Laird, legislation to protect continued access to critical services for older adults and people with disabilities on the Central Coast during a regional transition affecting aging services.

SB 1261 will allow the Aging and Disability Resource Connections (ADRC) serving San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties to temporarily continue operating independently during the redesignation of regional Area Agencies on Aging.

“Older adults, people with disabilities, and their caregivers rely on the ADRC as a trusted place to turn for help,” said Laird. “This bill helps ensure essential services remain available during a major transition, so no one falls through the cracks.”

The bill now advances to the Senate floor for consideration.
