Budget Chair Laird Statement on Senate Approval of Budget Trailer Bills

SACRAMENTO – Senator John Laird, Chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, released the following statement today after the Senate approved budget trailer bills, including SB 110, SB 122, and SB 125, that help implement the broader budget agreement and support the state’s efforts to balance the budget, reduce the structural deficit, and protect essential services.

“The trailer bills approved today reflect the same balanced approach that has guided budget negotiations this year. They provide additional revenues that help balance the budget over the next two years, reduce the structural deficit, maintain strong reserves, and avoid deeper cuts to services that Californians rely on every day.

While there will be debate about individual provisions, the alternative would have been more significant reductions to health care, education, housing, child care, public safety, and other essential programs. This package represents another important step toward a final budget that protects Californians while strengthening the state’s long-term fiscal position.”
