Eelgrass Restoration Legislation Passes Senate Committee

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Senate Bill (SB) 1363, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality early yesterday evening on a 5 to 2 vote.  The bill requires the Ocean Protection Council (OPC), in coordination with the State Coastal Conservancy (SCC), to establish a program to restore eelgrass in order to mitigate the impacts of global warming on the ocean and on California’s coastal plant and animal species.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water passed Senate Bill (SB) 1363, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which requires the Ocean Protection Council (OPC), in coordination with the State Coastal Conservancy (SCC), to establish a program to restore eelgrass with the goal of mitigating the harmful effects of global warming caused by carbon dioxide on the ocean and California’s coastal plant and animal species.

Senate Health Committee Passes Bill to Increase Awareness about Consumer Rights to Make Health Care Complaints

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senate Bill (SB) 945, which seeks to establish minimum standards of care and safety at pet boarding facilities, passed out of the Senate Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development today on a 9 to 0 vote.  SB 945 was introduced by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and will provide pet boarding operators with clear guidance about the health and safety standards needed at their facilities.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senate Bill (SB) 968, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed out of the Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities and Communications on a 9 to 0 vote.  SB 968 calls for an assessment of the adverse and beneficial economic impacts that could affect San Luis Obispo County if the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant were to shut down and for possible mitigating actions to potential adverse impacts.

End of Life Option Act to Become Effective on June 9
