Boating Education Legislation Going to Governor’s Desk

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – A measure to require boaters to pass a boating education examination and obtain a vessel operator card in order to operate a motorized boat in California is on its way to Governor Brown’s desk.  Senate Bill (SB) 941, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed off of the Senate Floor earlier today. 

Legislation To Benefit Monterey Peninsula Water Ratepayers Goes to the Governor

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – A measure to authorize the California Public Utilities Commission to allow the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District to issue water rate relief bonds to the public for the purpose of financing a portion of the California American Water Company (Cal-Am) Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project is on its way to Governor Brown’s desk.  Senate Bill (SB) 936, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed off of the Senate Floor earlier today.

Sugary Drink Warning Label Wins Legislative Victory

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Safety warning labels on sodas and other sugar-sweetened beverages sold in California came a step closer to reality today when the Senate Committee on Health approved Senate Bill (SB) 1000 on a 5-2 vote.  The first-in-nation legislation was introduced by State Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) to ensure that all Californians are aware of the link between sugary drink consumption and the exploding rates of diabetes and obesity.

Senator Monning to Hold a Hearing to Determine if California Businesses are Ready for a Major Earthquake

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), Chair of the Senate Committee on Insurance, announced that he will hold an informational hearing on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in Room 112 of the State Capitol to examine the impact a major earthquake would have on California’s businesses and its economy.

Senator Monning Authors Consumer Rights Legislation to Provide Control of Vehicle Data

 (SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) announced the introduction of consumer rights legislation that will provide vehicle owners control over the personal information generated by on-board computer technology systems found in connected cars.  The Consumer Car Information and Choice Act will require car buyers to be notified that their vehicle information is collected by automakers, and establish that consumers have the right to access this information and control with whom it is shared.
