Bill to Determine Economic Impact of Diablo Canyon Closure Goes to the Governor’s Desk

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Legislation to help assess the economic impact of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant closure, Senate Bill (SB) 968, passed out of the California Legislature and now moves to the Governor for his consideration.  The bill, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), calls for an assessment of the adverse and beneficial economic impacts facing San Luis Obispo County once the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant shuts down, and will offer potential mitigation actions for anticipated adverse impacts.

Bill to Restore Eelgrass and Mitigate Harmful Effects of Carbon Dioxide Heads to the Governor

August 25, 2016

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senate Bill (SB) 1363, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed out of the Legislature yesterday and is headed to the Governor’s desk.  The bill requires the Ocean Protection Council, in coordination with the State Coastal Conservancy, to establish a program to restore eelgrass in order to mitigate the impacts of global warming on the ocean and on California’s coastal plant and animal species.

(SACRAMENTO, CA)  - Legislation to create a more rigorous process when prescribing potentially harmful psychotropic drugs to foster children, Senate Bill (SB) 253, by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) moved to the Governor’s desk today.

Bill to Establish Care and Safety Standards at Pet Boarding Facilities Passes the Legislature

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senate Bill (SB) 945, which establishes minimum standards of care and safety at pet boarding facilities, passed out of the California State Legislature today and is now awaiting action by the Governor.  The measure, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), would provide pet boarding operators with clear guidance about the health and safety standards needed at their facilities and provide consumers with protection against faulty and/or dangerous practices that may threaten their animals.

Governor Brown Signs Bill to Protect Residents and Families from Delayed Repayments

(SACRAMENTO, CA)  - Today, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill (SB) 939 by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which gives Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) residents and their estates protections against significant delays in the repayment of residents’ entrance fees when contracts condition the repayment on the resale of CCRC units.  Entrance fees for CCRCs can range from $100,000 to $1 million, and many residents sell their homes and assets to cover the fee.

Bill to Protect Seniors and their Families from Delayed Payments Goes to the Governor

(SACRAMENTO, CA)  - Today, the California Legislature sent Senate Bill (SB) 939, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), to the Governor.  The bill will help protect Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) residents and their estates against significant delays in lump-sum entrance fee repayments.
