Sen. Bill Monning: Central Coast benefits from water bond

Last week, the Legislature united to pass a water bond, which Gov. Brown signed, to guarantee its placement on the November ballot. While the legislation had bipartisan and near unanimous support, the pathway to the final agreement was fraught with uncertainty. Fortunately, the will to advance solutions to better manage California's precious water resources amidst the continuing drought outweighed partisan or regional posturing.

Boating Education Legislation Going to Governor’s Desk

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – A measure to require boaters to pass a boating education examination and obtain a vessel operator card in order to operate a motorized boat in California is on its way to Governor Brown’s desk.  Senate Bill (SB) 941, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed off of the Senate Floor earlier today. 

Bill to cut desal project costs heads to Governor

SACRAMENTO >> State legislation aimed at saving Monterey Peninsula water ratepayers millions in desalination project financing costs is headed to the Governor's desk.

Senate Bill 936, backed by State Sen. Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and other Central Coast lawmakers, was approved by the State Senate on Wednesday. State Sen. Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres), and State Assemblymen Mark Stone (D-Scotts Valley) and Luis Alejo (D-Watsonville) also backed the bill.

Legislation To Benefit Monterey Peninsula Water Ratepayers Goes to the Governor

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – A measure to authorize the California Public Utilities Commission to allow the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District to issue water rate relief bonds to the public for the purpose of financing a portion of the California American Water Company (Cal-Am) Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project is on its way to Governor Brown’s desk.  Senate Bill (SB) 936, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed off of the Senate Floor earlier today. 

Bill to help form basin water district passes legislature

A state bill to help form the Paso Robles Basin Water District has cleared both the California Senate and Assembly and now awaits the governor’s signature. AB 2453 passed the Assembly yesterday.

The final version of the bill allows a petition to create the district be filed with the Local Agency Formation Commission if 10 percent of the landowners sign the petition. Formation of a district would require a vote of the majority of landowners, 50 percent plus one, based on vote for each landowner.

Bill aimed at preventing sexual harassment of farmworkers moves forward

August 19, 2014

A bill that would require sexual harassment prevention training for agriculture workers is headed to Gov. Jerry Brown.

Sen. Bill Monning, a Carmel Democrat, authored the measure, which would address numerous reports of sexual harassment, including rape, against female farmworkers.
