Eelgrass Restoration Legislation Passes Senate Committee

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Senate Bill (SB) 1363, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality early yesterday evening on a 5 to 2 vote.  The bill requires the Ocean Protection Council (OPC), in coordination with the State Coastal Conservancy (SCC), to establish a program to restore eelgrass in order to mitigate the impacts of global warming on the ocean and on California’s coastal plant and animal species.

Bill Passes Senate to Protect Seniors and Their Families from Delayed Payments Owed

(SACRAMENTO, CA)  - Senate Bill (SB) 939, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), gives Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) residents and their estates protections against significant delays in lump-sum repayments, passed off of the Senate Floor today on a 34 to 0 vote.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water passed Senate Bill (SB) 1363, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which requires the Ocean Protection Council (OPC), in coordination with the State Coastal Conservancy (SCC), to establish a program to restore eelgrass with the goal of mitigating the harmful effects of global warming caused by carbon dioxide on the ocean and California’s coastal plant and animal species.

Senate Health Committee Passes Bill to Increase Awareness about Consumer Rights to Make Health Care Complaints

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Today, the Senate Committee on Health passed Senate Bill (SB) 1135, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), on a vote of 8 to 1.  The bill requires health plans and insurers to notify consumers and health care providers about patients’ rights to timely access to care and language assistance.  Additionally, the measure mandates that the toll-free telephone consumer call center numbers of the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC), the California Department of Insurance (CDI), or the Medi-Cal Managed Care Office of the Ombudsman be on consumers’ insur

Legislation to Establish Standards at Pet Boarding Facilities Passes Senate Policy Committee

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senate Bill (SB) 945, which seeks to establish minimum standards of care and safety at pet boarding facilities, passed out of the Senate Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development today on a 9 to 0 vote.  SB 945 was introduced by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and will provide pet boarding operators with clear guidance about the health and safety standards needed at their facilities.
