(Sacramento, CA) – Starting today, Assemblymember Bill Monning (D-Carmel) will dig into his mail bag and answer constituents’ questions on a new video feature called, “Assemblymember Monning’s Mailbox.”  This new video feature is available on Assemblymember Monning’s website, YouTube, and on Community Television of Santa Cruz, Comcast Channel 27.

(SANTA CRUZ, CA) - While in Santa Cruz yesterday, Assemblymember Bill Monning saw the effects of the communications outage first-hand. Signs on many bank windows read, “Closed due to computer failure,” while many state and County offices were cut off from the outside world without internet or phone service.

SACRAMENTO, CA—Assemblymember Bill Monning (D, Carmel) has named Aptos resident Melanie Larson as the 27th Assembly District’s 2009 “Woman of the Year”.  As part of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus annual tribute to outstanding California women during Women’s History Month, Ms. Larson will travel to the State Capitol on Monday, March 16, 2009 to be honored.  Each Legislator is honoring a woman from their district who has made exceptional contributions to their community.

SEASIDE, CA—On February 21st at 6:00 pm, Assemblymember Bill Monning (D, Carmel) will give out the Centennial Life Membership Awards during the NAACP Annual Banquet at the Embassy Suites in Seaside. The event takes place on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The featured speaker at the event will be civil rights activist, Dick Gregory. The event, sponsored by the NAACP’s Monterey Branch, will honor the contributions of Leon Panetta, Hebard Olson, and Hal Ginsberg.

(Santa Cruz, CA) — On Monday, February 16, 2009, Assemblymember Bill Monning (D - Carmel) will present an award to the winner of the second stage of the Amgen Tour of California professional bicycle race.  The second stage of the race will begin at 8:30am in Sausalito, proceed through Bonny Doon in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and conclude at approximately 12:30 pm on Front Street in downtown Santa Cruz.  Assemblymember Monning and other local dignitaries will be on hand to welcome the finishers.  A large crowd is expected , along with the national and international media.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Bill Monning (D-Carmel) has been appointed Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass.

JLAC oversees the work of state agencies and the programs they administer in order to improve government performance.  Independently, and through the State Auditor, JLAC investigates, studies, analyzes and assesses the financial practices, as well as the performance, of governmental and publicly created entities in California.
