(SACRAMENTO)— Today, Senate Bill 365 by Senator Lois Wolk (D–Davis) sailed through the California Legislature without a single “No” vote.  The bill was amended early this week to make a technical fix that will free up $80 million in county jail construction funds – with nearly $44 million going directly to Monterey County.

U.S. Representative Sam Farr (D-Carmel), California State Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and California State Assemblymember Mark Stone (D-Monterey Bay) today celebrated Governor Jerry Brown signing the state’s 2013-14 Budget that includes $1.5 million for the construction of the California Central Coast State Veterans Cemetery at Ford Ord.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Supervisor Teixeira.  He was a dedicated public servant, as well as a warm and generous person whose friendship I will greatly miss.  My thoughts and condolences go out to Paul’s wife and family.”

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Last night, the Budget Conference Committee approved a $1.5 million allocation for the California Central Coast State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Ord in the 2013-14 Budget.  It is anticipated that the complete 2013-14 Budget, which includes this allocation, will be voted on by both houses of the legislature by the June 15, 2013 constitutional deadline.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the Senate Committee on Health passed Senate Bill (SB) 622, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which seeks to establish a tax on sweetened beverages in order to fund childhood obesity prevention programs.  SB 622 now moves to the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Legislation that will provide consumers with information about safety-related plans and the number of deaths at ski resorts passed the Senate Health Committee today.

Senate Bill (SB) 564, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), requires ski resorts to prepare an annual safety plan and to create a monthly summary report stating the number of deaths occurring over that time period at the resort.  The safety plan and the summary report must be available to the public upon request.
