Senator Monning Names ‘FoodWhat?!’ as 17th Senate District Nonprofit of the Year
(Sacramento-CA)—Today, FoodWhat?! was honored as the 17th Senate District Nonprofit of the Year by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel). FoodWhat?! serves low-income and struggling youth healthy, sustainable food through farming.
“FoodWhat?! has done a tremendous job in empowering the youth of Santa Cruz County through using sustainable agriculture,” stated Senator Bill Monning. “The organization provides low-income youth with the opportunity to learn about local food systems, diet and nutrition, along with critical life skills. Thank you to everyone at FoodWhat?! for your dedication to helping teens find their voice and long lasting confidence.”
Founded in 2007 as a vehicle to help empower the Santa Cruz County youth, FoodWhat?! provides a safe space to access resources and opportunities for impoverished teens. Program participants learn to plant, manage, harvest and distribute healthy, sustainably grown food, as well as host farm stands, organize health events and lead peer-to-peer workshops on food justice and community throughout Santa Cruz County.
FoodWhat?! was honored at the annual California Nonprofits Day celebration in Sacramento to recognize exceptional nonprofits statewide.
