New End of Life Act talk draws capacity crowd in Santa Cruz

State Sen. Bill Monning wants to give California residents permission to talk about more options in the last months of their lives.

In the first of several planned “town-hall style” community meetings about the state’s pending End of Life Option Act, Monning and a panel of experts introduced the nuances of the new legislation to a Santa Cruz audience of more than 100 people on Friday.

“Our abilities to talk about end-of-life options with compassion are truly growing,” said panelist Dr. Catherine Sonquist Forest, medical director of Stanford Health Care at Los Altos. “There’s a tendency to judge when it’s an emotional issue like this, but it truly is a private decision.”
