The Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Awards (GEELA) recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made notable, voluntary contributions in conserving California's precious resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, building public-private partnerships and strengthening the state's economy. Senator Monning attended the January 22, 2013 GEELA Ceremony and helped to honor Santa Cruz County for its Zero Waste Program and Ecology Action for its RightsLights Energy Efficiency Program.
Assemblymember Monning was honored to be able to attend the ceremony held on May 19, 2012 to commemorate the designation and protection of 15,000 acres of land on the former Fort Ord US Army base as the Fort Ord National Monument under the federal Antiquities Act.
Assemblymember Monning named Rama Khalsa, Ph.D., as the 27th Assembly District’s 2012 “Woman of the Year”. Each Legislator selected a constituent who has made exceptional contributions to her community and Dr. Khalsa was honored on the Assembly Floor on March 26, 2012.
On February 18, 2012, Assemblymember Monning hosted a Town Hall meeting at Java Junction in Santa Cruz where he spoke about legislative issues of interest.
On November 29, 2011, Assemblymember Monning co-hosted a Gubernatorial Appointments Workshop with Assemblymembers Alejo and Campos that featured Mona Pasquil, the Governor's Appointments Secretary.
