Senator Monning Statement on Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Opening

October 11, 2016
(Seaside, CA)  - Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) issued the following statement on today’s opening of the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery at Fort Ord:
“Today is a historic day for the community.  For nearly 25 years, there has been a vision to provide a final resting place of honor for veterans on the Central coast.  After years of effort by a multitude of stakeholders, the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery is open.  This has been a priority issue for me since I was first elected to the Assembly in 2008 and it will honor the brave men and women who have served our country.
“My family has history at the former Fort Ord.  It is where my father trained as a combat engineer prior to his deployment during World War II and where he met his future wife, my mother, who worked there as a nurse’s aide.  The Central Coast Veterans Cemetery is a tribute to the contributions of military families who have previously served, currently serve, and will serve in the future.”
